Quality & Continuous Improvement Engineer

Position Summary:

 In this unique, exciting, and highly impactful role, our hybrid Quality & CI Engineer is responsible for driving quality assurance and improving process efficiency within a dynamic production (woodshop) and warehouse (pick-and-pack) environment.  This position is integral to our site leadership team and our business success, and will also be aligned with (and supported by) functional Quality and Process Engineering leadership.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Quality Related

  • Provide Quality Engineering support to Operations, ensuring consistent application of product quality assurance techniques
  • Support yellow and red Andon light process for reporting and correcting problems found during the manufacturing process and at end of line inspection respectively, which drives First Pass Yield (FPY)  Pareto charts for continuous improvement actions
  • Deploy Layered Process Audit (LPA) process using mobile audit platform for plant floor processes already developed and implemented at other manufacturing sites
  • Resolve product quality issues by identify problems, examining solution options and implementing closed looped corrective action-preventive action plans (CAPA).
  • Oversee MRB process and transactions, issuing internal corrective action requests, supplier quality notifications (SQNs) and supplier corrective action requests (SCARs)

 

CI/Process Related

  • Assist in teaching Lean methodologies and principles during project execution and facilitate Kaizen events, Gemba activities, and general process improvement approaches to optimize operations processes
  • Measure and report current-to-future state process improvements and manage post-project implementation to ensure sustainment
Qualifications, Skills and Education

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in fast paced, build-to-order production and/or warehouse environment.
  • 1+ years of experience in Quality Assurance and/or Manufacturing Excellence

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma, Lean, or ASQ Certification
  • Training as a Quality Auditor
  • Experience with quality software/statistical analysis applications such as Minitab
  • Proficient in MS Office, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and other pertinent industry software
  • Ability to lead/facilitate teams
  • Proven project management skills
  • Exceptional problem solving skills using data driven analysis
  • Lean manufacturing training and proven ability to use lean tools and methodologies
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Control Plans, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, listening
