Position Summary:

This position will act as the Engineering lead in a team dedicated to addressing and reducing warranty issues through design and process improvements and, as a result, helping Exemplis reach and retain best-in-class status in customer satisfaction.  This will include working to meet personal and team metrics regarding the speed and effectiveness of addressing warranty issues.
This sustaining engineering role will lead ad hoc cross-functional teams charged with quickly evaluating issues found on the production floor or at the supplier.  The engineer will oversee and lead the team in a data and process-driven analysis of the issues’ root causes.  They will be responsible for fully documenting the issues and resolutions to increase organizational knowledge and reduce the possibility of experiencing similar cases in the future.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

•    Addressing warranty issues and communication from Customer Experience Representatives in a timely manner.  Work with a team to establish short and long-term plans to address the issue and minimize customer inconvenience. This is the top priority of this position, and metrics will be set to measure success based on time, effectiveness, and customer feedback.
•    Work as part of a warranty team that meets daily to review quality issues.  
•    Collaborate with team members to understand the scope of problems and prioritize them based on various factors.  
•    In collaboration with the warranty team, establish work plans and timelines for addressing significant and minor issues.  Project tasks may include working with CAD modelers to revise designs, FEA, prototyping, formal problem-solving processes such as 8D or A3, tooling revision or creation, etc.
•    Identify improvements in terms of process, cost, or quality.  Establish the proof of improvement through testing, financial analysis, and stakeholder consultation. Lead the team in fully implement the change upon approval.
•    Lead and collaborate with Customer Experience, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, and Quality in determining the root cause of issues.  
•    Working understanding of root cause analysis tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone diagraming, Pareto charts, and FMEA.
•    Lead engineering support team for PPV and VAVE projects responsible for generating savings of millions of dollars per year.  
•    Detail project requirements from review thru implementation and will require establishing, monitoring, and ensuring the timely completion of tasks from a diverse set of stakeholders, including Supply Chain, Finance, Test Lab, Engineering personnel, Change Coordination, etc.
•    Initiate engineering drawing and BOM revisions.  Will be responsible for creating Engineering Change Orders, red lining drawings for drafters, and checking the drawing updates.  Will be responsible for updating the product matrix and reviewing and approving BOM configuration revisions after IT completion.

Qualifications, Skills and Education

Required Qualifications: 

•    Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Field
•    5+ years of experience using SolidWorks; General modeling and CAD drafting, and a basic understanding of the ASME Y14.5 drafting standard.
•    4+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment and understanding of basic manufacturing and production principles.
•    4+ years of working with structural plastic components resulting in a strong background in all stages of plastics production and material properties.  
•    2+ years of experience with 8D or 3A problem-solving processes with emphasis in root cause analysis.
•    Established history of defining and implementing continuous improvement projects.
•    Ability to run and interpret Finite Element Analysis of plastics.
•    Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently.
•    The ability to travel to Mexico.

 


 Preferred Qualifications
•    Strong background in statistical analysis and DOE (Design of Experiments).
•    Six Sigma Green Belt or higher.
•    Experience with Minitab or similar statistical software.
