Sustaining Engineer I (Hybrid)

Use your education and collaboration skills to assist in creating, testing, approving, and implementing systematic New Product Introductions (NPI) as well as Engineering Change Orders (ECO).  In this role, you will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders throughout the company while learning all engineering aspects of NPI and ECO processes.

In this role, your primary responsibility is translation of physical designs/changes into systems that drive documentation in support of global operations.  With support of cross-functional partnership, this role is also responsible for checking, iterating, and driving the ultimate approval and integrity of the output.  Additionally, you will work closely with other sustaining engineers on investigation, root cause analysis and solutions for production and process issues as they arise. 

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Work with NPI & Manufacturing engineers, Supply Chain, change coordination and IT to establish documentation of all new products, ensure consistency and accuracy of BOM input detail as well as testing of output.  

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering on developing and testing multi-level BOM’s on an as needed basis. 

  • Work with various engineers and initiators of engineering requests to research and document all the background information required for the approval and implementation of changes.

  • Lead the engineering effort for establishing timing of changes with specific responsibility of ensuring IT systems readiness, production line readiness and supply chain readiness and then working with change coordination and IT to implement. 

  • This position requires cross-functional interface to develop optimal timing based on variables such as urgency of the change, current stock position, forecast, effect on related SKUs, scrap minimization and avoidance of manufacturing disruption at plants across North America.

  • Initiate drawing revisions.  Will be responsible for creation of Engineering Change Orders, red-lining drawings for drafters and checking the drawing updates. 

  • Work with multiple departments on identified issues related to design, components, processes, etc… 

  • Use various tools to perform root cause analysis and reach the best available solution. 

  • Document and present the proposed solution and implement upon approval.

Qualifications, Skills and Education

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
  • Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP system
  • Fundamentals of Engineering or similar certifications/licenses
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 dimensioning and tolerancing standard
