PDM Systems Engineer

Position Summary:

The PDM Systems Specialist serves as the technical owner of the Product Data Management (PDM) environment, responsible for system configuration, performance, and data integrity. This role ensures that engineering and product data are structured, controlled, and accessible to support efficient product development and change management processes.

As a senior individual contributor, this position partners cross-functionally with Engineering, IT, and Operations to maintain and optimize PDM systems and integrations. The role plays a critical part in enabling scalable product data practices and supporting the organization’s evolution toward a more mature PLM and data governance framework.

This hybrid role is based in Cypress, CA and reports to the Sr. Manager, Project Engineering.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Own the configuration, administration, and performance of the Product Data Management (PDM) system, ensuring stability, usability, and data integrity.
  • Manage PDM workflows, user access, licensing, and system structure to support engineering and change control processes.
  • Serve as the primary administrator and technical lead expert for PDM and its integrations with CAD, ERP, and future PLM systems.
  • Maintain and optimize data structures including part numbering, revision control, and document management frameworks.
  • Support Engineering Change Control by ensuring system workflows accurately reflect approved processes and enable efficient execution.
  • Troubleshoot system issues, data inconsistencies, and user challenges related to PDM and product data.

Operational & Technical Duties

  • Configure and maintain PDM workflows, states, transitions, and permissions to support engineering and operational processes.
  • Support system upgrades, migrations, and enhancements in partnership with IT and Engineering Services.
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for optimization, automation, and improved user experience.
  • Maintain data accuracy and integrity through system rules, validation mechanisms, and configuration controls.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and user training materials.

Data & System Support

  • Assist in resolving BOM, drawing, and product data issues in coordination with Engineering Change Control.
  • Provide reporting and data extraction support to enable process monitoring and decision-making.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering Services, Change Control, and IT to align system capabilities with business processes.
  • Enable effective use of PDM tools across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations.
  • Contribute technical input to PLM strategy and system evolution initiatives.

Qualifications, Skills and Education:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with PDM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM), including workflows, vault design, and user permissions.
  • Demonstrated ownership of system configuration, data structures, and workflow management within a PDM/PLM environment.
  • Strong understanding of engineering change control processes, revision management, and product data structures.
  • Experience supporting integrations between PDM and ERP/PLM systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, or similar).
  • Exposure to PLM platforms (e.g., Windchill or similar).
  • Experience with automation, scripting, or system optimization.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools applied to data validation or engineering workflows.
  • Experience supporting cross-functional system implementations or transformations.
