Manager, Reliability Engineering

Position Summary:

As a Manager, Reliability Engineering you'll be the owner of building and leading a team of multidisciplinary technical experts. You'll have oversight of product design analysis and product validation testing, ensuring new and existing products and components meet all industry, customer, and corporate reliability requirements for the life of the product. Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Build and lead a team responsible for Product Design Analysis (CAE, FEA, etc.), Product Reliability, and Product Testing.  Drive a culture of team work, technical excellence, ownership, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Transform the Exemplis test facility into a world-class component and product testing facility.  Provide direction for planning, selecting, purchasing, and forecasting testing equipment related to new equipment.  Provide recommendations for equipment replacements, upgrades, and evaluate applicable new technology.
  • Lead the creation of departmental KPI’s (ex: OEE, MTTF, etc.) & best practices, providing regular status reports to Senior Management
  • Monitor all testing and evaluations for completeness and accuracy, advise internal customers of any performance related risk, and develop mitigations for any substantial risk.
  • Participate with the design team to develop a "Design for Reliability" plan, to be executed concurrently with development to achieve zero defect new product launches.
  • Oversee analysis of product performance, analytical characterization, and CAE model outcomes via technical assessment to develop strategy and propose changes to fulfill reliability targets of new and existing products.
  • Drive reliability via scientific and statistical approaches (FMEA, DOE, etc.) to achieve product quality that can perform targeted functions at acceptable quality levels under user environments for the targeted product life. 
  • Review historical data early in the design process to identify potential reliability issues.  Analyze and simulate designs to assure adequate margin to achieve desired reliability and effective risk margin.
  • Develop a prioritized list of value-based projects with key milestones and completion dates and provide regular status reports and assessment of project deliverables completed versus plan.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with Product Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Customer Care  to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and existing products.  Manage potential conflicts and achieve compromise in ensuring product reliability while making good decisions regarding design materials, manufacturing, quality, cost, and timing requirements.

Qualifications, Skills and Education

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.  
  • Experience supervising/managing a Quality or Reliability Engineering team.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Professional attainment of Certificate of Reliability or Quality Engineering (CRE or CQE).
