Intern - Product Engineering

Position Summary:

Exemplis is a fast growing consumer products and durable goods manufacturer operating seven innovative brands (i.e., Timbuk2, X-Chair).  We are launching the search for our 2023 Internship Class, so the question is:  Do you have the motivation and enthusiasm to contribute your skills in this fast-paced (but FUN) environment?  Our 12-week internship includes work on real business challenges, an investment in your development, and an opportunity to meet some amazing people.

Exemplis is currently seeking ME majors who will revel in disrupting the world of manufacturing, by helping to facilitate tool-less assembly strategies and empower award winning aesthetic designs. This your chance to work as part of a world-class team to develop your engineering chops, with ample opportunities to exploit the latest CAD, Simulation and Rapid Prototyping technologies. Your time will be split between ideation, detailed CAD design work, with plenty of  hands-on proto-typing and destructive testing. If you’ve ever pried apart an Iphone, relished the precision molding of Lego blocks or enjoyed the satisfying clicks of a Fidget Cube, then this is a great opportunity for you…come ‘tear it  down’ and ‘3D print’ with us!

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Identify & tear-down interesting competitor products, sporting goods, electronic and automotive devices to test and benchmark best-in class snap-fit designs
• Review and digest material datasheets and molding design guides
• Use Solidworks to design beautifully intricate and deceptively simple snap mechanisms & validate using simulation tools
• 3D print & prototype designs, test functionality and validate reliability in the test lab
• Summarise and report conclusions and make recommendations

Qualifications, Skills and Education

• Currently enrolled in a Engineering degree program
• Experience with 3D CAD, Solidworks preferred
• Flexibility and comfort working in a quickly changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic understanding of material properties, especially polymers
