This person will supervise and coordinate activities of the PM Shipping Team, responsible for preparing products, orders, and loads for future and same day shipping both nationally and internationally. This role will oversee the activities and delegate work to the employees engaged in accepting goods from production operations, handling and storage of finished goods, loading shipments, dock management, and transportation.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Supervise the Shipping Team to ensure that customer orders are shipped on time (meet COT deadlines), in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Delegate work to employees to ensure the following areas run efficiently and effectively:  Hand-Off areas (BP, MX, and Woodshop), shipping storage locations, shipping dock, trailer yard, and trailer loading.
  • Develop and create work instructions and standard operating procedures for all processes completed by the Shipping Team.
  • Work with Asst. Shipping Manager on labor planning to support short term and long term business requirements.
  • Hire, train, and supervise the team to meet all departmental objectives and KPI’s and to maximize dock efficiencies.
  • Generate Shipping KPI reports on a daily and weekly basis and send to Logistics management for review.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement through conducting continuous improvement activities with the Shipping Team, helping to identify root causes, and proposing corrective actions.
  • Collect data related to key intra-department activities and analyze the data to identify opportunities for improvement and process optimization.  Present findings and recommendations to Logistics management team.
  • Use company’s Transportation Management System (TMS) to execute the Logistics’ teams outbound shipping plan.  Be a TMS super user.
  • Work with Transportation team to identify improvements to the TMS that would improve the operating effectiveness of the Shipping Department.  Support the development, implementation, and roll-out of all TMS enhancements and changes.  Create training materials and oversee the training of the team. 
  • Participate in and lead project teams focused on improving the day-to-day operation of the company’s Shipping department.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through on-time shipping, outbound order accuracy, and carrier routing compliance.
  • Ensuring shipping area is organized and clean at all times and meets all compliance factors.

Qualifications, Skills and Education

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in logistics and warehousing operations (shipping) desired.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in working with TMS / WMS / ERP applications
  • Strong PC skills with MS suite expertise
  • Experience in dock management, load optimization, on-dock consolidations, and pool distribution execution.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Logistics or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX
  • Knowledge of Mercury Gate TMS or the below Support Software
    • Liberty
    • Microsoft Office
    • Crystal Enterprise
    • Crystal Reports
    • Sales Force

Working conditions:

  • Requires work in Shipping operation in non-temperature controlled facility
  • May have extended periods of standing / walking
  • This position works in a warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on the schedule you are assigned, but generally are Monday through Friday.
  • Overtime and weekend work if required
